The Lessons of Loss
Loss is inevitable. Loss is natural. Loss is to be human. We all will experience loss in one form or another. You will grieve for the loss of a loved one. You will be angry because you lost your cell phone. You will go nuts when you lose your marbles. Loss is normal. It’s what you do after the loss that makes you who you really are. You can blame yourself, cry yourself to sleep, or even blame someone else for the loss you have experienced, but learning from your loss is the real key to moving on. Here are ways to help you realize it is time to let go and move forward.
Know you did everything you could
When losing someone or something, you must know that you did everything you could to prevent that loss. Even if that loss is not in your control, you must realize that you still did everything to reconcile that loss. When you lose something, you do everything to fix it and you won’t give up until you realize you can’t do anything more.
Every loss brings growth
When you lose something or someone, it is not the end. It is just the beginning. With every loss comes growth and with growth comes the realization of self. You will grow as a person and individual, learning from the Lessons of Loss, to become who you are meant to be as a person. You just need to realize that with loss there is room to grow.
It is better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all.
It hurts. Losing someone or something you love. But instead of focusing in on the negative aspects of loss, focus in on the positive memories and lessons from your experience. It will help heal your wound of loss and enable you to move on.
Sometimes loss is good
There is a reason we lose things. Loss isn’t random. Loss is strategically placed throughout our lives to remind us that we are human. Loss can be a good thing at times. Sometimes you lose a job just to get a better one. Sometimes you lose a lover to turn around to find the love of your life. Loss steers us in the direction we are supposed to go. You just need to trust.
You are not alone
Everyone experiences loss. Every single person goes through it, in one way or another. The best way to get over your loss and move on is to talk to other people and exchange stories about loss, to gain perspective on your own personal loss. Swapping stories helps brings you closer to moving on while connecting with someone else who has been down the same road.
